Membership
Policies

By enrolling at Chicago MMA, you agree to abide by the following policies in full. Please read them carefully before your first class.

Membership
01

Cancellation Policy

Members who wish to cancel their membership must provide written notice at least 30 days prior to the desired cancellation date. Verbal cancellations will not be accepted under any circumstances.

Written notice must be submitted via email to management or through the Gymdesk member portal. Membership obligations โ€” including billing โ€” remain active until the 30-day notice period has been fulfilled.

02

Refund Policy

Chicago MMA does not issue refunds on the basis of non-attendance. Membership dues are charged regardless of whether you attend class during a given billing period. It is the member's responsibility to utilize the services available to them.

No exceptions. Missed classes, personal schedule conflicts, illness, or travel do not constitute grounds for a refund or billing credit unless otherwise agreed to in writing by management.
03

Membership Termination

Chicago MMA reserves the right to terminate any membership for any reason, at any time, at the sole discretion of management. Members who are terminated will be notified directly.

Grounds for termination may include โ€” but are not limited to โ€” conduct violations, non-payment, harassment, failure to follow gym rules, or any behavior deemed inconsistent with Chicago MMA community standards.

Conduct
04

Code of Conduct

Chicago MMA is a competitive, high-performance training environment built on a foundation of mutual respect. Disrespect of any kind โ€” toward students, instructors, staff, or guests โ€” will not be tolerated.

This includes but is not limited to: verbal abuse, physical aggression outside of supervised training, bullying, intimidation, or discriminatory behavior of any kind. Members are expected to uphold the values of discipline, humility, and sportsmanship at all times.

Zero tolerance. A single serious violation of the code of conduct may result in immediate membership termination at the discretion of management.
05

Language Policy

Derogatory, abusive, or demeaning language will not be tolerated at Chicago MMA โ€” from anyone. This standard applies equally to coaches, instructors, and students without exception.

This includes slurs, hate speech, belittling comments, and any language that creates a hostile or unwelcoming environment on or off the mat. We hold our coaches to the same standard we hold our students. Leadership sets the tone, and that tone is respect.

There are no exceptions based on rank, tenure, or role. Any member or staff found in violation of this policy is subject to immediate suspension or termination.
06

Social Media Conduct

Members represent Chicago MMA both inside and outside the gym. Online conduct that is inconsistent with our community values reflects on the gym and will be treated as a conduct violation.

This includes posting disparaging content about training partners, coaches, or other members; sharing footage without consent; or engaging in online harassment involving the Chicago MMA community. Members are encouraged to share their training journey โ€” but always with respect.

Safety & Training
07

Safety First

Safety is the number one priority at Chicago MMA โ€” for every student, every instructor, every class, every day. This is not a formality. It is the foundation on which everything else is built.

As a member of this gym, your safety and the safety of your teammates is your personal responsibility. Every decision you make on the mat โ€” how hard you go, who you train with, when you tap โ€” should be made with that responsibility in mind.

You are under no obligation to train with anyone you do not want to train with. No explanation is required. No pressure will be applied. Your comfort and safety come first, always.

08

Tapping & Submissions

Tap early. Tap often. There is no ego worth an injury. When you tap, your partner must release the submission immediately and without hesitation. Failure to release promptly is a serious safety violation.

Resisting a submission to the point of injury โ€” yours or your partner's โ€” is unacceptable. A healthy training partner is more valuable than any position or round. Protect each other on the mat.

Deliberate disregard for a tap is grounds for immediate removal from class and potential suspension or termination of membership.
09

Illness Policy

Do not train if you are sick. Contagious illness spreads rapidly in a grappling environment. If you have a fever, active cold or flu symptoms, a respiratory infection, or any contagious skin condition โ€” including ringworm, staph, or impetigo โ€” you may not train until you are fully cleared.

If you arrive to class and an instructor determines you are unwell, you will be asked to leave for the safety of the community. This is not a judgment โ€” it is a responsibility we all share.

10

Injury Disclosure

Members are required to inform their instructor of any existing injuries before class begins. This allows coaches to recommend modifications, adjust drilling partners, or advise against specific techniques that could worsen the injury.

Training through an undisclosed injury puts both you and your partners at risk. Chicago MMA will not be held liable for aggravation of injuries that were not disclosed prior to training.

11

No Training Under the Influence

Training under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, or any impairing substance is strictly prohibited. This is a non-negotiable safety policy with no exceptions.

Any member who arrives to class visibly impaired will be asked to leave immediately. Repeated violations will result in membership termination. This policy exists to protect you and everyone you train with.

Facility & Operations
12

Gym Rules

By maintaining an active membership, you agree to follow all Chicago MMA gym rules. These rules exist to create the best possible training environment for everyone. They are not suggestions.

  • Show up on time. Late arrivals disrupt class and are disrespectful to the instructor and your training partners. Repeated tardiness may result in being turned away from class.
  • Show up prepared. Know your schedule. Bring your gear. Be ready to train when class begins.
  • All gym rules are binding. Additional rules posted at each location are considered part of this policy.
13

Hygiene Standards

Training in close contact with others is a privilege that comes with personal responsibility. Chicago MMA enforces the following hygiene standards without exception:

  • Clean workout clothes required for every class. Do not arrive in used or sweaty training gear.
  • Shower immediately after class. This protects you and your partners from bacteria and skin infections common in contact sports.
  • Never wear the same workout clothes two days in a row. All training attire must be freshly laundered before each session.
  • Change your shirt between back-to-back classes. A fresh shirt is required before each class when training multiple sessions in a single day.
This is non-negotiable. Members who repeatedly violate hygiene standards may be asked to leave class and, in serious cases, have their membership suspended.
14

Mat Rules

The mats are a shared training space. Protecting them protects your training partners.

  • No shoes on the mat. Remove all footwear before stepping onto any mat surface. Use sandals or flip-flops when walking between the mat and restrooms.
  • No zippers on the mat. Zippers pose a serious injury risk. All zippers must be taped or removed before training.
  • All training attire must be washed before use โ€” including brand-new clothing. Unwashed fabric (new or used) can bleed dye onto the mats. Always launder training gear before its first use.
  • Jewelry and piercings are worn at your own risk. Chicago MMA strongly discourages training with any jewelry or piercings. Any injury resulting from training with jewelry or piercings is the sole responsibility of the member.
15

Cell Phones on the Mat

Cell phones are not permitted on the mat during class. No calls, no scrolling, no filming โ€” unless explicitly authorized by the instructor. Class time is training time.

If you need to record instructional content for personal study, ask the coach for permission beforehand. Filming other students without their knowledge or consent is never acceptable.

16

Guest Policy

Guests are welcome at Chicago MMA with prior approval from management. All guests must complete a liability waiver and be accompanied by an active member.

New students and first-time visitors must contact us at [email protected] to receive and sign the liability waiver before their scheduled visit. Guests who have not completed the waiver in advance will not be permitted to train.

Guests are subject to all gym policies and codes of conduct while on the premises. The sponsoring member is responsible for their guest's behavior. Contact management for details on our trial and drop-in options.

17

Personal Belongings

Chicago MMA is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal belongings. Members are encouraged to use available lockers and to avoid bringing valuables to the gym.

Items left on the premises beyond 30 days may be disposed of at management's discretion. Report any security concerns to staff immediately.

18

Strength Room & Bag Access

The strength room is available to all active members at no additional charge. Members may use the strength room anytime the gym is open โ€” during classes, open mats, or any other time the facility is operating.

  • Heavy bags are available during open mat sessions. Bag work is not permitted during structured classes unless the instructor explicitly opens the floor.
  • Re-rack all weights after use. Leave the strength room in the same condition you found it โ€” or better.
  • Wipe down equipment after use. Use the provided spray and towels.
  • No dropping weights unnecessarily. Controlled lowering protects the equipment and your training partners nearby.
19

Photography & Video Consent

By maintaining an active membership at Chicago MMA, you acknowledge that you may appear in training photos or videos captured at the gym. Chicago MMA may use such content for promotional, editorial, or social media purposes.

If you have concerns about being photographed or filmed, please notify management in writing. We will make reasonable accommodations. Members may never film or photograph other members without their explicit consent.
